A teenage girl named Nasreen Akhter Sara (18) went on a hunger strike in front of the police station to demand the arrest of the torturer in Jhalokati. He went on a hunger strike around 12 noon on Thursday. He also threatened to commit suicide in front of the police station if the accused was not arrested within 72 hours.
It was learned that a young man named Adnan assaulted teenager Nasreen Akhter Sara on October 2 at noon after she rejected his love proposal. He filed a case at the police station that same night. But a week later, the police were unable to arrest the defendant. On the contrary, pressure is being exerted from various fields to solve the problem. Enraged by this, the girl went on a hunger strike in front of the police station with a sign in hand. Upon seeing him, countless people crowded in front of the police station.
Meanwhile, Sara’s sister and brother-in-law arrived and burst into tears. They also demanded justice for the incident. After the police arrived and claimed to arrest the accused within 72 hours, Sara went on a hunger strike.
During the hunger strike, Sara said that Adnan, a Ponabalia Union resident in Jhalokati Sadar Upazila, had been proposing to her for several days. Adnan was furious with him for rejecting the offer. Last Friday afternoon, Adnan went to the home of Sarah’s older sister, Akhinur, and carried out a surprise attack. At one stage of the beating, he lost all consciousness. So Adnan fled. Upon receiving the news, the older sister and the neighbors rescued Sara and admitted her to Jhalokati Sadar Hospital.
Sitting on a hunger strike, Sara complained: ‘Zubair and his associates are putting pressure on my family to take over the case. Even propaganda about us is spread through social media. Meanwhile, propaganda has been made on my behalf with some Facebook IDs. If this situation continues, I will have no choice but to commit suicide. I demand justice for the torture, not a settlement. If the defendant is not arrested within 72 hours, I will walk past the police station and commit suicide.
Sarah’s sister, Akhinur Akhter, said: “Even after a week of torturing my sister, the police were unable to arrest the accused. They pressure us to drop the case as we are defenseless. Jubayer Adnan’s father has filed a false complaint against us in court. We want justice for Sarah’s torture. The accused must be arrested and punished in an exemplary manner.
The Jhalokati (SI) Police Deputy Inspector said. Farooq Hossain said: ‘The police are trying to arrest the accused. Sara went on a hunger strike after being assured of her arrest within 72 hours.
