The more vocal is the Faculty of Social Sciences
Professors from the faculty of social sciences are more vocal about closing the unit. They held a meeting on the virtual platform on Monday night. What is called an ordinary meeting. More than 60 teachers were present at the meeting.
Sadeka Halim, acting dean of the faculty of social sciences, told Prothom Alo that the meeting had made a joint decision to maintain the uniqueness of the faculty of social sciences. In light of this decision, they will give their opinion at the meeting of the academic council of the university.
Sadeka Halim added: “Teachers at the meeting also said that we can find alternatives and think about modernizing the testing process. But that must be done while maintaining the uniqueness of the faculty of social sciences ”. He said that as Dhaka University is on the brink of its centenary, it is a wonder to them why issues like the cancellation of unit D were raised without any prior discussion.
Dhaka University’s Department of Music, Dance and Theater and Performance Studies admits students primarily through Unit B. Those who pass the multiple-choice admissions test have the opportunity to be admitted to the departments by showing their experience in the relevant field. The vice chancellor said at first glance: ‘The way we admit students in music, dance and theater, the same method will be adopted for fine arts. Since these are specialized creative fields, they must be managed in the same way. The deans will discuss and develop a strategy.
However, the acting dean of the College of Fine Arts, Professor Nisar Hossain, told Prothom Alo on Sunday that the fine arts admission test is special. Here theoretical tests and drawing tests are carried out. It’s not fair to talk about the F-drive shutdown without specifying how the art proof will be conducted.
Kamrul Hasan, a professor in the Department of Physics, wrote in a post on his verified Facebook account: “Through Unit D, science students have the opportunity to study arts and social sciences. I don’t know how this side shift will happen after the abolition of this unit. However, in any case, it is not correct to deprive people of the opportunity to study science, social studies and arts subjects. He added: “Because of this opportunity, many people have become professors at Dhaka University, many of whom are quite famous.”
