To cope with the growing demand for onions, TCB will increase the price of onions by 100 kg per truck from Thursday. In addition, five trucks will be increased in Dhaka and Chittagong. The number of trucks in the whole country will be 275. And there will be 45 in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the volatility of onion prices in the country’s market has not decreased. Prices for this commodity were also on Wednesday. There were fewer buyers of onions in multiple markets in the capital yesterday than the day before.
There are four types of onions available in the country today. One of them is a native variety. The onion was sold yesterday at a wholesale price of 500 or 100 Tk per kg at Karwan Bazar. It is sold on the retail market up to 110 rupees. The day before, this onion was worth 100 rupees.
Onions of the national hybrid variety have been sold for Rs. This variety of onion has been sold in the retail markets at Rs 100 per kg. This price is five rupees more than the day before.
The price of imported onion has also risen. This quality onion was sold yesterday at 74 Tk per kg wholesale and 6 Tk per kg wholesale. The day before, on Tuesday, it was sold at 300 or 60 rupees per kg. Although it was sold at a high of Tk 80 on Tuesday, another type of onion imported yesterday was sold at Tk 75 per kg in the retail markets. Imported onions are available at a price of Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg without the shell.
Onion prices soared when India announced the suspension of onion exports. Many common buyers flock to the market to buy onions, fearing that it will increase even more in the future. This ‘panic’ buying on Tuesday was eye-catching. However, this trend was seen much less yesterday.
