The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling potatoes via trucks in major locations in Dhaka city from Wednesday.

A press release issued by the Commerce Ministry on Tuesday (October 20) said this.

A maximum of two kg of potatoes can be purchased at Tk 25, depending on the notification. At the same time, TCB will sell onion, edible oil, sugar and lentils at affordable prices.

Meanwhile, the government has re-set the price of potatoes at Rs 35 per kg on the retail market. The price was set at an exchange meeting at the Khamarbari Agricultural Marketing Department on Tuesday.

At the beginning of October 8, the Agricultural Marketing Department set the price of potatoes at 23 Tk at the cold storage level, 25 Tk at the wholesale level and 30 Tk at the consumer level. Letters were also sent to the deputy commissioners to confirm this price. But the merchants objected to this price. At one point they stopped selling potatoes.

Taking into account the general situation, the price of potato was re-fixed at 28 Tk per kg at the cold storage level, 30 Tk per kg at the wholesale level and 35 Tk per kg at the retail level.

The Department of Agricultural Marketing has requested all Deputy Commissioners to take the necessary steps for strict monitoring and surveillance to ensure that cold storage vendors, wholesalers and retailers sell potatoes at this fixed price.
