Tareq and Masum, two other defendants in the gang rape case of a housewife in MC’s bedroom in Sylhet, have made confessional statements under article 164.
All eight arrested in the gangrape case have given confessional statements under section 164 in court. Earlier on Friday and Saturday night, three of the six made confessional statements in two phases.
On Sunday (October 4) in the court of the metropolitan additional chief magistrate Ziadur Rahman, Tareq and the metropolitan chief magistrate (second) court judge Md. Masum testified in the court of Saifur Rahman under section 164.
Sources said that Tarekul Islam Tareq, the second defendant in the case, told the court in his statement that MC took the people out of the university gate with the housewife and took them to the dormitory in a private car. Saifur Rahman, Arjun Laskar and Tareq then raped the housewife.
Another defendant in the case, MC College student Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, told the court that he arrived at the scene on a motorcycle after receiving information about the incident. He did not rape the woman. Saifur, the main defendant in the rape and weapons case, used a room assigned to him in the dormitory.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Prosecutor’s Office) Amulya Kumar Chowdhury confirmed the information of the two defendants on Sunday.
He said the two had pleaded guilty to participating in the rape. After taking the statement, they were sent to jail. All eight defendants arrested in the case have pleaded guilty to rape.
After a five-day pre-trial detention, Tarekul Islam Tareq, 26, and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, 6, were brought before the court of the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman around 3:15 pm on Sunday.
They then made a confessional statement. Earlier on Friday night and Saturday night, the other six defendants in the case, Saifur Rahman, Arjun Laskar, Rabiul Islam, Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Misbah-ur-Rahman Rajan and Ainuddin, pleaded guilty. in rape court under section 164.
They confessed to being involved in the incident and gave a detailed description of the violation. In their statements they openly informed the court about who raped them and who helped them. Previously, the police sent each of the eight defendants detained in the sensational case step by step for five days.
On the night of September 25, a housewife was gang-raped while going to MC College with her husband. The housewife was forcibly taken away by her husband around 8:30 pm and raped in a private car in front of the bedroom. At that time, two people detained her husband in front of the university.
The husband of the housewife filed a case at the Shahparan Police Station. Three other unidentified leaders and activists of the Chhatra League were charged in the case.
The BCL activists accused of gang rape are supporters of Ranjit Sarkar, former secretary for sports and youth affairs of the Awami League of Sylhet district.
In this incident, the RAB and the police arrested six more defendants and two more suspects. The eight detainees were held in preventive detention for five days. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the eight defendants made confessional statements under section 164.
