A young man named Mizanur Rahman (20) has been accused of taking a sick girl from his brother and stabbing her to death for refusing a love proposal. The incident took place in the Palpara area of Dhaka’s Savar Township on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Neela Roy, 14, daughter of Narayan Roy from the village of Balirtek under Manikganj Sadar upazila. She lived with her family in the Kazimukmapara area of Savar Township. She was a tenth grade student at the local Assed school.
According to family and police, college student Mizan, son of Abdur Rahman from Bank Colony near Kazimukmapara, had been proposing love to Neela for a year and a half. Sapphire suffered from shortness of breath around 6pm on Sunday. Her brother Alok Roy was taking her to the hospital in a rickshaw. After walking away from the house, Mizan stopped the rickshaw. He then dragged Sapphire at gunpoint and lowered her from the rickshaw into the Palpara area. Mizan fled after stabbing Neela in the neck, abdomen, face and neck in an alley in front of Savar Girls High School.
Hearing the cry of the girl, local people rescued her and took her to Prime Hospital on Thana Road. When her condition deteriorated there, she was taken to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital. Neela died at 9:30 pm while receiving treatment there.
According to the police, Mizan is an HSC examinee from a local university. He was unable to take the HSC exam as he had failed the test once before.
The comment from Neela’s older brother Alok Roy, ‘As soon as they left the house, they saw Mizan. Mizan didn’t say anything to them then. After riding the rickshaw for some distance, Mizan came up behind and stopped. She had two large knives in her hand. Mizan stopped the rickshaw and told her sister to get off the rickshaw. Mizan threatened to kill him if he resisted. At one point, Mizan forced her sister out of the rickshaw. She and her sister did not dare to scream in fear. She didn’t even follow them. Twenty minutes later, she learned that Mizan had stabbed her sister and fled.
Alok Roy claimed that Mizan used to harass his sister on the way to and from school. She used to offer love to her sister. He used to ask her to chat with him on Facebook. Mizan used to threaten to kill all members of her family if they protested against this. And they used to suppress everything fearing Mizan as mighty and mighty. They did not report the matter to the police thinking they might be in more danger.
They didn’t take any action even after telling Mizan’s parents. In contrast, Mizan’s mother used to advise her daughter to talk to Mizan and chat on Facebook.
Neela’s mother, Mukti Roy, said that even after telling Mizan’s parents, they took no action. On the contrary, Mizan’s mother used to advise her daughter to talk to Mizan and chat on Facebook. In this situation, due to the oppression of Mizan, they left Savar’s home a year ago and went to Balirate in Manikganj. A few months later they moved back to Savar to study for their son and daughter. A few days later, Mizan followed her daughter again. Even then, they refrained from reporting the matter to the police out of fear.
Savar Police Station Inspector (investigation) Saiful Islam said that several police teams have been conducting operations to arrest Mizan since the stabbing incident. A case is being prepared in this regard.
