The High Court ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to immediately remove the video of a naked and tortured woman in Begumganj of Noakhali from social media. Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office has ordered that a copy of the video be sent to the court in the form of a CD or on a flash drive by October 28. The court said that if the video of the incident were posted on social media, it would affect society and tarnish Bangladesh’s image abroad. That is why it should be removed from social media.

At the same time, the court ordered the SP of Noakhali to provide security for the victim and her family until the case is resolved. The court has given a total of five points. The court also formed a three-member committee headed by the Noakhali Additional Deputy Commissioner to find out whether the police had been negligent in taking testimony from the victim. The Noakhali District Social Services Officer and the Principal of Chaumuhani Government SA College have been included as members of the committee. The committee has been asked to report to the Clerk of the Superior Court within 15 business days. The Deputy Commissioner has been directed to cooperate on the committee. In addition, the officer in charge of the Begumganj Police Station was ordered to submit a written report to the court by October 28 indicating the most recent status of the criminal case.

The court issued the order after Supreme Court lawyers ZI Khan Panna and Abdullah Al Mamun reported the incident to various national newspapers. Lawyer AM Aminuddin, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua, Lawyer Yadia Zaman, Jamiul Haque Faisal, Rashida Chowdhury Nilu, Tanzim Al Islam Prom addressed the court. The court expressed dissatisfaction with the role of the Begumganj police, saying that 32 days after the incident, when the video went viral, the police took action. What have they done before? At the same time, she expressed frustration that no human rights organization or women’s organization had gone to court to redress the complaints.

At the hearing, advocates ZI Khan Panna and Abdullah Al Mamun called for the removal of the viral video from social media. They said it was a matter of public interest. The viral video is still on social media. If it exists, it will affect society and tarnish Bangladesh’s image abroad. Therefore, it must be removed. During the hearing, AM Amin Uddin said: “The incident that happened to that woman is the most heinous crime. A case has been filed in this regard. Police is on the case. Ruhul Quddus Kajal said: “Such incidents are having a negative impact on society. It damages social and religious values. The image of Bangladesh is tarnishing abroad. I think that in the context of these events, one should look at the opinions of psychologists as to why such incidents occur one after another. Therefore, it must be kept under judicial scrutiny.

Jyotirmoy Barua said that these incidents are now occurring across the country. But those involved in the incident are obtaining political asylum. Due to these reasons, law enforcement does not work in some cases. Therefore, we must take exemplary measures against them.

Rashida Chowdhury Nilu, referring to herself as a girl from the area in question, said police had arrested four people in the incident. The police are very active. Formation of the investigation committee of the National Human Rights Commission

Commission chairman Nasima Begum strongly condemned the incident and said that this incident also defeats the barbarism of primitive times. Such an egregious incident is not acceptable in any way. This incident is an extreme violation of human rights.
