The police informed Sohail that no meeting could be held in front of the press club without permission. In response, BNP leaders said, all went to the press club to protest. They will also protest peacefully. Shortly after 11 a.m., Chhatra Dal leaders and activists emerged from inside the press club and took a position on the road. When the police asked them to get off the road, they disagreed. After that, when the police tried to drive them away, the confrontation began. Faced with the suddenness of the incident, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists threw bricks at the police and immediately became a battlefield in front of the National Press Club. Common people run from here to there. Traffic is closed. About 20 bursts of tear gas were fired and reckless beatings were inflicted in the pursuit between leaders and activists with the police.

Ramna Police Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sajjadur Rahman said: ‘If you want to hold a ceremony anywhere in Dhaka city, you need to get permission from the DMP commissioner. Chhatra Dal did not ask permission to run the show. We told them in the morning, you do the program with permission. Instead, he exited through a gap in the press club and attacked the police, throwing bricks from inside the press club. Seven or eight members of the police were injured. Chhatra Dal President Fazlur Rahman Khokon told reporters: “We have requested permission from the police to meet, but we are not allowed. We no longer went to fight there, the police attacked us before the peaceful assembly began. More than 30 Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were injured in the clash and are receiving treatment at various hospitals. And when they went to Dhaka Medical College for treatment, some people were also detained there.
