The earthquake struck New Zealand at 2:26 pm local time on Friday (9:26 pm Bangladesh time on Thursday). It originated 160 kilometers from the city of Gisborne on the northeast coast of the country. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers below sea level.

A previous earthquake in 2011 had a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale in Christchurch, New Zealand. The city was badly damaged by the catastrophic natural disaster. 185 people died. Bangladeshi cricketers stay in that city.
It is worth mentioning that the Dudal ODI series will begin on March 20 in Dunedin. The location for the second ODI on March 23 is Christchurch. The last ODI in Wellington will be on March 26. Then the T20 series will be played on March 26 in Hamilton. The second T20 will be played on March 30 at Napier. The final match will be played in Auckland on April 1.
