Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has pointed out that there is a striking resemblance between the tragic incident in Karbala and the murder of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15.
The prime minister said that Karbala’s tragic story was repeated in Bangladesh on August 15, 1975 and that Ziaur Rahman was the villain behind the murder.
He said this at a discussion meeting organized today on the occasion of the National Day of Mourning and Ashura.
The Prime Minister said: “There is a striking resemblance between the August 15 massacre and the Karbala tragedy.”
He said that Hazrat Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Imam of Muslims, was assassinated in Karbala and Bangabandhu in 1975 and most of his family members were brutally murdered.
The Awami League president further said that women and children were not killed in the Karbala incident. But women and children were not spared in that incident in Bangladesh.
He said children and women were also shot dead at Bangabandhu’s house number 32 in Dhanmondi on the night of August 15. In addition, his political colleagues and family members were killed on Mintu Road that night.
This morning, the Prime Minister participated in the debate via videoconference from her official Ganobhaban residence. The prime minister’s secretaries also joined him at the ceremony.
The event was jointly organized by the Dhaka North and the South Metropolitan Awami League. After the discussion, a special prayer and munajat were held.
The central leaders of the Awami League and the leaders and workers of the Dhaka Two City Unit participated in the discussion meeting organized from the party office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At that time, the Prime Minister paid deep respect to Imam Hussain (RA) and said: ‘Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW), was brutally murdered on the 10th of Muharram, 80 AH on the ground of Karbala. Because he was on the path of justice. ‘
The Awami League North Dhaka Metropolitan City Chairman Bazlur Rahman chaired the discussion while the Awami League South Dhaka City Secretary General Humayun Kabir led the discussion.
A minute’s silence was observed at the beginning of the meeting to pay tribute to the memory of Bangabandhu and other martyrs on August 15.
Sheikh Hasina said that the murderers of the Father of the Nation have admitted Zia’s involvement in the massacre in their various speeches and interviews with the media.
He added that Khandaker Mostaq, a senior member of Bangabandhu’s cabinet and then Commerce Minister, was also fully involved in the conspiracy. His name will be written on the pages of history as a traitor. Shortly after this heinous assassination, Mostaq declared himself president of Bangladesh.
The prime minister said that Zia had gained the trust of Khandaker Mostaq. And so he dismissed General Shafiullah and appointed Zia head of the army.
He said: “When Khandaker Mostaq was in Bangabhaban, Zia used to travel there frequently and meet Bangabandhu’s killers. All these incidents have now demonstrated Zia’s involvement in the murder of Bangabandhu in front of the people.
