The incumbent Amir Allama Junaid Babungari has alleged that an insidious group is conspiring to spread unfounded lies about the death of Amir Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, the founder of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh.
He said that three months after Allama Shafi’s death, an insidious mahal had filed a bogus case calling his death unusual. Babungari claimed that the case was a “political conspiracy” and an attempt to destabilize the country. Hefazat Amir warned that strict measures will be taken if the case is not withdrawn.
He said this at a press conference co-hosted by Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Muinul Islam Hathazari Madrasa and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh at 11:30 am on Wednesday. The conference was organized to demand the withdrawal of the false cases brought against Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi for his untimely death, conspiracy against students and teachers of the madrasah and false charges against Hefazat leaders.
His brother-in-law Mainuddin filed a case alleging that Shafi was assassinated at the Magistrates Court-3 in Chittagong on December 16. Hefazat’s deputy general secretary, Mamunul Haque, was charged in the case. The court learned of the case and ordered the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) to investigate.
In demanding the withdrawal of the case, Hefazat Amir said that Allama Shafi had died a natural death. However, false cases have been brought against the Hathazari Madrasa students and Hefazat leaders. We strongly condemn it. From today’s press conference, we strongly demand that this bogus case filed be immediately dropped. Otherwise, we will be forced to take strict measures in consultation with the main ulama of the country.
Responding to a question from reporters, Allama Babungari claimed that the case brought against Allama Shafi for his unnatural death was a political conspiracy. As a result of their own actions, these insidious neighborhoods have been rejected by the people and deviated from Islamic principles and norms. Now they have conspired to loot new profits with the death of Allama Shafi. The case is part of that conspiracy.
Babungari said they had not previously benefited from the dirty policy with Allama Shafi’s body either. Even during Allama Shafi’s life, he was seen as a hostage to gain vested interests. They took him hostage and carried out one corruption and injustice after another, disputing and questioning his growing popularity. Madrasa teachers, students, ulama and locals will not give you the opportunity to profit from this false and deliberate case.

At the press conference it was reported that Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi’s family and the madrassa authorities had clearly informed people about his natural death. Long ago, Allama Shafi’s physical condition was so fragile that rumors of his death had spread several times. So those who have brought a case alleging the murder of Allama Ahmad Shafi are an identified group of runners. They are rejected by the academic society of the country and the conscious Tawhidi people. We believe that the reasons given for the alleged murder in the case are full of exaggerations and lies and are politically motivated.
At the press conference it was reported that Allama Shafi died a natural death by the will of Allah, but they were unable to present any medical report to the nation that he was killed. They could not give a good answer to the questions of the journalists present at a press conference organized by the group identified a few days ago about the murder of Allama Ahmad Shafi. None of those who have been charged in the case presented and those who have been charged in the details are involved in it. So charging them is a conspiracy and a completely false motive.
Allama Shafi died on September 18 at the Azgar Ali hospital in the capital.
