Stop submitting income tax returns online

This time, taxpayers don’t have the opportunity to file their tax returns online. The National Revenue Board (NBR) has stopped filing returns online due to various errors. Relevant sources have confirmed the matter.

It is known that it was created by a software company called FPT Information Systems Corporation of Vietnam. The last three years were also active. Due to the expiration of the contract with that organization, the NBR online return submission opportunity has been closed.

Since November is the last date to file income tax, many have not opened the National Income Tax Board (NBR) online filing link. As a result, many taxpayers have filed their income tax returns online for the past three years, but this time they must do it the traditional way.

In November 2016, the then Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, launched the online system by submitting his statement. Although not a single return was filed that year, taxpayers filed online for the next three years.

According to NBR sources, around 5,000 taxpayers have filed returns online in fiscal year 2016-17. In fiscal year 2018-19, 5,748 people filed their returns online. In the last year, 7,208 people have taken advantage of this opportunity.

On average, 22 to 23 lakh of taxpayers file returns each year. However, online performance is less than 1 percent.

A special tax exemption of Taka 2,000 was granted in the current financial year to increase interest in filing returns online. This generated excitement among taxpayers. But taxpayers cannot take advantage of that opportunity. The NBR itself has given this opportunity but has stopped the system.
