RAB-11 arrested four people, including two women, for stealing money by cutting the wrist of an NGO worker in Narsingdi. They were arrested in a special operation in the district’s Madhabdi bus stop area on Wednesday night. The money that was taken from them and the victim’s mobile phone was seized at that time.
Those arrested are Md. Rubel Mia (26), Badsha Mia (22), Mahbuba Akhter Marina (22) and Mithi Begum (26).
The RAB-11 commander, Lt. Col. Khandaker Saiful Alam, said this in a press release Thursday afternoon. He said that on Tuesday afternoon, December 15, NGO worker Shanta Akter was returning to Baji Mor’s office after collecting the loan fee from the West Kandapara area of the city. At the time, Rubel Mia and Badsha Mia were lying in front of the Government Women’s College in West Kandapara, as planned. The kidnapper Rubel tried to snatch the bag full of money by stopping the rickshaw of the NGO worker. When the NGO worker did not put down his bag of money, Rubel’s colleague, Badsha, hit the girl on the left wrist. Later, when his wrist was cut off, Rubel and Badsha left him bloodied and fled with a bag of money. He then hid in Rubel’s father-in-law’s house in Brahmanpara from the Narsingdi Sadar Police Station. The NGO worker’s bag was set on fire. Meanwhile, the incident was caught on CCTV and when it spread on social media, there was quite a stir.
At the press conference, the RAB official further said that Ismail Sikder, the branch manager of the NGO Asha, presented a case to the Sadar police station against theft. In this context, RAB intelligence conducted secret surveillance and investigation. The main defendants, Rubel Mia and Badsha Mia, were arrested in a special operation in the Madhabdi bus stop area of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway of the Madhabdi Police Station around 3 pm yesterday. According to the information provided by them, his accomplice Mahbuba Akhter Marina was arrested in a raid in Khadimachar of the area around 3:30 pm. At that time a lakh 91,500 rupees in cash was seized from him. According to Mariner, another accomplice, Mithi Begum, was arrested in the Brahmanpara area of the Sadar Police Station around 4:30 pm. A ruble shirt, a king’s hat and the victim’s mobile phone were confiscated from his custody.
Said the defendant in the initial questioning. Rubel Mia and Badshah Mia confessed to being involved in the robbery.
The RAB official further said that all those arrested were professional kidnappers and were involved in various antisocial and criminal activities. Among them, four cases are pending on behalf of Rubel, eight on behalf of Badshah and two on behalf of Mithi Begum. The detained defendants have been handed over to the model Narsingdi Sadar police station.
