Statement by two madrasa masters on the breaking of the Bangabandhu sculpture in Kushtia

Al Amin and Yusuf, two madrassa teachers charged in the case brought against Kushtia for vandalizing the sculpture of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, have given Section 164 statements in court.

The statement was made by two madrassa teachers in the court of Judge Delwar Hossain of the Amli High Judicial Magistrate Court of Kushtia on Saturday afternoon.

According to sources, the madrasa teacher Yusuf Ali said in his statement that he was teaching in the Hefz department at Madrasa Ibn Masood Kushtia. 16 students from that department studied. Abu Bakkar Nahid, accused of vandalizing the Bangabandhu sculpture, is a student in the same department. Two or three days before the incident, Abu Bakr and Rahid together with Yusuf went to the Kushtia market. On their way to and from the market, they came across the Bangabandhu sculpture at the intersection of five city streets.

Later he advised them to go home from the madrasa. Later, the police showed them CCTV footage of the vandalism, but did not admit it despite knowing the two defendants.

Another teacher, Alamin, made a similar statement. However, he mentioned in his statement that everyone in the madrasa, including teacher Al Amin, used mobile phones. They used to listen to Waz on their cell phones. Especially Mamunul Haque, Hafizur Rahman Siddiqui, Khaled Saifullah Ayubi and others would have liked to hear the waz. This madrasa teacher also advised the two accused madrasa students to move from the madrasa to their respective homes. The police subsequently questioned them about the images captured on CCTV, but they remained silent.

Kushtia Police Superintendent SM Tanvir Arafat said the two accused madrassa teachers did not disclose knowledge of the involvement of the two accused madrassa students in the vandalism of the sculpture of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The opposite has helped them escape. Police arrested the defendant and two of his teachers, including a madrasa student, in connection with the case. They agreed to give a confessional statement after being sent to prison for further investigation.

Incidentally, the Bangabandhu sculpture under construction was vandalized at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia city at midnight on December 5. The Kushtia Municipality Secretary Kamal Uddin presented a case to the Kushtia Model Police Station. Police arrested the defendants in the case on December 6.

Two students from the madrasa on Sunday. The five-day pretrial detention of Abu Bakkar alias Mithun and Sabuj Islam alias Nahid is coming to an end. These two students can also give confessional statements in court. Eight police officers, led by three additional police superintendents, are questioning the defendants in custody.

Police said two students who were directly involved in the demolition of the sculpture have already provided important information.
