Section 33 was installed on the Padma bridge at noon today with an interval of only eight days. Named ‘1C’, this leg has been successfully placed at poles 3 and 4 on the Mawa side. The bridge is visible at 4,900 meters.
Executive Engineer at Padma Bridge Dewan. Abdul Quader said he took the stage around 8:30 am today and went to posts number 3 and 4, which are about 900 meters away. Later at 12 noon he was placed on the post. It was placed next to the section that was installed on October 11.
He said there are plans to install two more stretches this month, the 25th on October 25 and the 35th on October 30th. Work is underway with the goal of placing the 6 spans on the posts this year. Now the span is also ready so it is only a matter of time to put it on the post.
Additionally, slab placement work in the installed spans is also progressing rapidly, Quader said, adding that 108 road slabs have been installed on the bridge’s upper deck so far. And 1590 railway slabs are sitting. The 6.15 km long bridge will have two floors, with a road at the top and a railway at the bottom. The distance from one post to another of the bridge is about 150 meters. Each pole has the capacity to carry 50,000 tons of cargo.
Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014 with its own funding from the Government of Bangladesh. The main bridge is being built by the Chinese contractor China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC) and the river is managed by the ‘Sino Hydro Corporation’ of China. Boss
