Sri Lanka has expressed interest in investing in various sectors of Bangladesh, including the construction of tourism infrastructure. During a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Ganobhaban on Wednesday (February 18), the newly appointed Sri Lankan High Commissioner for Bangladesh, Sudarshan Dipal Suresh Senaviratna, expressed interest. Later, Prime Minister Hasan Zahid Tushar’s deputy press secretary briefed reporters.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on Sri Lankan businessmen to invest in the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone. The Prime Minister said: ‘We are establishing 100 special economic zones across the country. Sri Lankan entrepreneurs can invest here. At the same time, Sheikh Hasina mentioned the favorable investment environment and liberal foreign investment policy of Bangladesh.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner conveyed to the Prime Minister his country’s interest in the launch of sea cruises, as well as in tourism and the construction of tourist infrastructure in coastal areas. “Your country is interested in investing in ships, hospitals, tourism, education and culture, the aviation sector and mutual cooperation,” he said.
The High Commissioner praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the unprecedented development achievements in Bangladesh under the Prime Minister’s leadership. He said he was overwhelmed by the steps taken by Bangladesh to deal with Corona.
In this context, the Prime Minister said: ‘Your government has tried to raise awareness among the people about the coronavirus. People have become conscious. As a result, it has been possible to control the Corona epidemic.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for providing the crown vaccine to the common people of Bangladesh as well as diplomats.
Congratulating Saima Wazed Hossain for being the World Health Organization’s Southeast Asian Autism Champion, the High Commissioner said: “Her work in the autism industry is commendable.” He said Sri Lanka was interested in cooperating with Bangladesh on autism.
At the time, the Prime Minister highlighted the various measures taken by the government to help people with autism, third gender and other people in danger of extinction.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner appreciated the provision of financial assistance through banks to marginalized beneficiaries of social security services. He referred to her as “pioneer”.
Recalling his life as a student, the High Commissioner said: “While studying in Delhi, he tried to help in the liberation war in Bangladesh in various ways.
The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to him for helping Bangladesh in the liberation war.
Among others were present at the meeting – Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office. Tofazzal Hossain Mia, military secretary to the prime minister, Major General Naqib Ahmad Chowdhury.
