Colombo: The epidemic is caused by the Corona virus. The IPL 2020 has been postponed indefinitely until further notice. On Thursday, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board proposed to the Indian Cricket Board to organize a millionaire league in their country.
Although it was supposed to start on March 29, the franchise’s cricket league was postponed until April 15 due to the first phase blockade. But as the nationwide blockade was extended for another 19 days to curb the outbreak of the crown, all chances of the tournament starting immediately faded away. The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) suspended the tournament indefinitely on Wednesday. The BCCI is reluctant to talk about organizing the IPL if the situation is not auspicious, although it has kept one aspect of the tournament open in the September-October window before the start of the T20 World Cup.
At the time, Sri Lanka was the island nation to host the 13th edition of the IPL. Crown infections are much less common on this insignificant island than in India. So far, the number of Kovid-19 cases in Sri Lanka is 236. 7 people have died from the virus. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board hopes that India will soon be tax free. At the time, the SLC did not want to miss the opportunity to organize a millionaire cricket league in its own country.
“We have the place and the infrastructure to organize the tournament,” Shami Silva, president of Sri Lanka Cricket, told the Cricket Board of India.
Previously, the IPL was held on foreign soil tonight in conflict with the 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections. 2009 was successfully hosted by South Africa. On the other hand, the first round of the IPL 2014 was held in the United Arab Emirates. Regarding the IPL organization, Board Secretary Joy Shah said: “The health and safety of the people of the country and everyone involved in cricket should be given top priority now.”
It remains to be seen how the Indian cricket board will respond to the proposal from neighboring Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
