Sreepur municipal election mayoral candidate died in Corona

BNP mayoral candidate Shahidullah Shahid, 45, from Gazipur’s Sreepur Township, died after being infected with the coronavirus. He died in a private hospital in the capital on Wednesday. Shahidullah Shahid was the general secretary of the Sreepur Municipal BNP.

Rafiqul Islam, deputy health secretary of the BNP central committee, said Shahidullah Shahid was kept on life support at a hospital in Dhaka in critical condition. He died around 11 today. He was the only candidate for mayor nominated by BNP in Sreepur Township.

According to family and party sources, Shahidullah Shahid already suffered from asthma and diabetes. A few days ago he was diagnosed with a coronavirus infection. When his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to the Dhaka Hospital. He entered the hospital on December 1, the last day for the presentation of the nomination papers for the position of mayor. Earlier, at a joint BNP district, upazila and municipal meeting on November 15, he was nominated as the only candidate for mayor of BNP. Voting for the municipal elections is scheduled for December 28.
