The legendary Argentine soccer player Diego Maradona no longer exists. He passed away at the age of 80, one of the greatest stars of all time in world football.
He died of a heart attack at his home Wednesday night. Maradona underwent surgery in early November for a blood clot in the brain. He died two weeks after returning home from the hospital.
Maradona has been suffering from health complications for the past several years. He was admitted to the hospital in January 2019 due to bleeding inside his stomach. He was unable to watch the game due to illness in the match between Argentina and Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.
Maradona won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986. In his professional career, Maradona has played for Argentina Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla and Newell’s Old Boys.
Maradona scored 34 goals in 91 appearances for Argentina internationally. Participated in four FIFA World Cups. Among them was the 1986 World Cup, where he was captain of Argentina and led the team to victory. He won the gold medal as the best player in the competition.
In the quarterfinals against England in 1986, he scored his famous ‘Hand Goal’, which became known as the legendary Goal of the Hand of God.
Maradona led Argentina to the final in 1990. West Germany lost them in that game in Italy. Then, in 1994, he went back to America to captain the Argentine team. But he had to return to Argentina after failing an illegal drug test.
He retired from professional soccer in 1996 when he turned 36. At that time, he was playing for the great Argentine team Boca Juniors.
Maradona was appointed coach of the national team in 2006. And he retired as manager after Argentina lost to Germany in the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup.
