India’s influential Muslim leader and senior MP, Asaduddin Waisi, has questioned the verdict, as all those accused in the landmark Babri mosque demolition case have been acquitted.
Reacting angrily to the court’s verdict, he said that everyone had seen Advani-Joshi sitting on the dais the day the Babri Masjid was demolished and distributed sweets. So how can they be innocent?
If these defendants had no role in the incident that day, who demolished the mosque?
On December 6, 1992, Babri Masjid was demolished by extremist Hindu tax collectors.
Veteran BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharati were charged with conspiring, planning and inciting to demolish the mosque.
The judge acquitted all defendants in the Babri mosque demolition case, which has been going on for nearly three decades, and said the demolition was not “planned in advance.”
After the verdict was announced, Advani, a 92-year-old veteran BJP leader, left the house to sugarcoat reporters.
“Today is a time of great joy. After hearing the news, we welcomed the verdict as Joy Sriram,” he said.
Murli Manohar Joshi was the president of the BJP when the Babri Masjid was demolished, and he was at the site that day.
