He gave the name of the missing person. Helal Uddin (36 years old). Helal, a resident of the Madinabad area of Mugda Police Station in Dhaka, was manager of a private development agency called ‘Setubandhan’.

The PBI arrested two locals, Raja Mia and Billal, on charges of involvement in her murder.

On December 6, 2019, his wife Kaniz Fatema Pinki filed a case with the Bhujpur Police Station regarding the disappearance of her husband.

In the case it was alleged that on November 18 of that year her husband came to Chittagong from Dhaka to buy woodpeckers. On 23 November, she learned that a group of people had taken her husband hostage in the Bhujpur-Ramgarh area. It has not been found since.

The case presented at the Bhujpur Police Station subsequently went to PBI for investigation.

PBI, Chittagong District SP Nazmul Hossain told bdnews24.com that Zakir Hossain Rubel, 24, a motorcyclist, was arrested on July 23 this year in the Ramgarh-Baganbazar area on a mountainous road.

In a statement to the court after his arrest, Rubel said that around 10 a.m. on November 23 last year, a ‘Raja Bhai’ from the village of Lalmai in Baganbazar Union told him that a man named Helal had gone to the nearby Chikanchhara bazaar to take him home on a motorcycle.

When Rubel went to the king’s house with Helal, he said that he saw Ismail, Saddam and Billal there.

Rubel later mentioned in his statement that he didn’t know anything else.

Nazmul said that Billal was arrested last Wednesday. During preliminary questioning, Billal said that Helal was killed and his body was buried in the hills of the Nurpur area of the Fatikchhari Baganbazar Union near Khagrachhari. Takshak was killed because he was not paid.

On Wednesday afternoon, an operation was carried out in the remote hills to rescue Helal’s body along with Billal. Helal’s skeleton was recovered from a 15-meter-deep hole during a search operation from noon to noon Thursday.

Nazmul, a PBI official, said DNA tests and autopsies would be performed on the recovered bodies. I assume Helal was killed sometime after November 23 last year.

He said that an operation was underway to arrest other people involved in the incident.
