A sister-in-law hacked and injured three brothers from the same family in Ashulia for not paying the dowry. The injured have been rescued and admitted to the Savar Upazila Health Complex for treatment. The incident took place in the Charabagh area of Ashulia Union on Friday evening. Upon receiving the news, the Ashulia police visited the scene.
Neighbors and the injured said that Monir Hossain, son of Manik Munshi from the area, was married to Farzana Khatun, daughter of the late Fayez Miah from Madhya Charabagh area a year ago. After the marriage, Monir demanded a dowry of several lakh rupees from Farzana Khatun’s siblings. The brothers gave a dowry of several lakhs of rupees for the welfare and peace of the sister’s family. On the night of the incident, Monir demanded a motorcycle and several lakhs of rupees as a dowry. Monir started beating Farzana when she told him not to bring the dowry from her father’s house. Neighbors informed Farzana’s brothers, Firoz Kabir, Zahirul Islam and Mominul Islam about the beating. Later, when they came to her sister’s house to ask about the beating, her sister-in-law Monir Hossain and his men were enraged and attacked and injured three brothers of housewife Farzana with domestic weapons. Neighbors rushed to the scene and took the injured to the Savar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
The three injured brothers said the locals did not arrive at the scene in time but their sister-in-law tried to kill them and try to escape.
Ashulia Police Station SI (Deputy Inspector) Simon said: “Strict action will be taken against the culprits after investigating the incident.” He also said that preparations are under way to file a case at the Ashulia police station for the incident.
