Mahbubur Rahman, 48, a deputy inspector (SI) of the highway police, was killed in a traffic accident in Sitakunda on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. He went to the scene after receiving news of a car accident but in another accident the police SI was tragically killed.
The accident took place in front of Unitex in Banshbaria of upazila around 8:30 am on Sunday (September 20). A sheriff named Noman was also injured in the incident. SI Mahbub is the son of the late Tafazzal Rahman from Duburia village under the Comilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station.
Highway police sources said that a covered truck was being pushed from behind by another covered pickup while unloading vegetables at the Barbakund market in the morning. Upon receiving the news, SI Mahbubur Rahman from the Bar Aulia Highway Police Station pursued the covered van. She stood in front of Unitex Mill in the Banshbaria area and stopped the covered van.
At that moment, another truck heading towards Chittagong pushed the covered van from behind. SI Mahbub, who was standing in front of the covered van, was seriously injured. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Assistant Deputy Inspector of the Chamek Hospital Police Outpost (ASI) said. Alauddin Talukder said the doctor on duty declared SI Mahbub dead when two policemen were taken to the hospital at 9.30 am. Said the injured bailiff. No one is in treatment in ward no.
