Although the incident occurred a few days ago, it was suppressed by city police officers. However, one day after a written complaint was filed with the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner and the incident came to light, anger was generated within the police.
The inspector alleged that the incident took place on the afternoon of October 25 in front of Paramount City in Reyazuddin Bazar of the Kotwali Police Station.
Earlier, on October 22, a businessman from Reyazuddin Bazar was stopped by the police in a car and kidnapped by the kidnappers for 290,000 Tk.
Three days later, Aftab Hossain, an inspector from the city police’s anti-terror unit, went to Reazuddin Bazaar for a family market.
The Kotwali police station, SI Rabiul Islam, suspected that he was the one who abducted him.
Aftab has been praised on several occasions in the investigation of major cases, including anti-militant operations in Chittagong, bomb recovery, and has also received IGP badges.
The victim filed a case at the Kotwali Police Station on the night of October 26.
Inspector Aftab filed a written complaint with the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner on Thursday, citing the beating of SI Rabiul the day before.
According to his comment, Aftab went to the Golam Rasul market in Reyazuddin Bazar on October 25 at around 3:30 pm with an acquaintance. He was dressed in white. From there they go down to the Paramount City Market.
In a written complaint, Aftab said that while he was there, SI Rabiul, who was wearing white clothes, tried to handcuff him and take him away. At that moment, when he showed up showing the walkie-talkie with him, SI Rabiul punched him in the nose and made him bleed.
Aftab said that after handcuffing and bleeding him, the market traders closed the door and informed the police. Later, SI Rabiul allowed himself and Aftab to speak to the Kotwali police inspector by phone (investigation). SI Rabiul released the handcuffs after the inspector (investigation) gave instructions. They later took him to the police station.
Aftab said in a written complaint that despite knowing nothing about the incident, SI Rabiul asked him to return the money snatched on the way to the police station in a GNC autorickshaw, which he still did not understand.
Aftab alleged that after being taken to the police station, he was first taken to the inspector’s (investigation) room at the Kotwali police station. Leaving him there, SI Rabiul snatched his mobile phone from him. Later he was taken to the OC’s room. The Deputy Commissioner of the South Zone, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner of the Kotwali Zone and the CO of the police station were present there.
Aftab said the OC and the deputy commissioner also asked him to return the money.
He claimed that he learned that Rs 290,000 had been taken from a man named Nur Mohammad on 22 October.
Aftab claimed that Nur Mohammad’s son and his relatives deliberately gave false and misleading information to the police about him and Hasan, who was with him.
Aftab said that after analyzing their and Hassan’s Call Detail Record (CDR) and CCTV footage of the home, police officers confirmed they were home at the time of the robbery.
After that, victim Noor Mohammad and his family members mistakenly admitted their identities and gave a written statement, Aftab said.
When contacted by bdnews24.com, Inspector Aftab declined to comment.
The Kotwali OC Mohammad Mohsin Police Station told bdnews24.com that a kidnapping case had been registered on October 28.
He avoided saying anything else about this.
Deputy Commissioner (DC-South) SM Mehedi Hasan also declined to say that such incidents were “unknown” when asked by bdnews24.com.
When asked about his presence after taking Aftab to the police station, he said: “I am going to the police station for various reasons. I don’t know when it happened.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Palash Kanti Nath also avoided asking.
When asked about the matter, CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir told bdnews24.com: “It is a misunderstanding. The police were wearing civilian clothes. We are investigating the matter.”
When asked about Inspector Aftab’s written complaint, he said: “I haven’t received it yet. Maybe it will come to the desk. In fact, it will be taken into account.”
He called SI Rabiul’s mobile phone more than once to comment on the matter, but did not respond.
SI Rabiul’s white dress has also been questioned.
At the beginning of July 16, the schoolgirl committed suicide after beating relatives of a schoolboy in a raid in the Agrabad area of the city’s Double Mooring Police Station.
The investigation committee formed in the incident found SI Helal Uddin guilty and gave a report. It was said that there is no possibility of such a campaign with white clothes.
SI Helal has been fired in this incident.
Defender Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury, Chairman of the Citizens Committee (CNAC), Chittagong Metropolitan, who is aware of such incidents, told bdnews24.com: But the assault is a different matter. No one other than intelligence personnel has the opportunity to go white to verify. The police will not go without a dress. “
He further said: “There are such accusations that they take people dressed in white.
“Even if you go somewhere with the dress based on secret news, you have to do GD. The seizure list is based on GD. If they are on duty, their movements must be transparent.”
