Sylhet: A court has granted a seven-day pre-trial detention to Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, a former head of the Bandarbazar outpost in Sylhet, accused of the murder of Raihan Uddin, who was tortured to death at a police post.
The head judge of the Sylhet Metropolitan Court, Abul Kashem, granted pretrial detention around 2 pm on Tuesday (November 11).
Earlier, Inspector Awlad Hossain, an investigative officer from the Police Investigation Office (PBI), presented him in court under police surveillance at 1:20 p.m.
Confirming the matter, Awlad Hossain said that if he requested a seven-day pre-trial detention, the court would grant him a seven-day pre-trial detention.
Earlier on Monday (November 10), the police arrested Akbar in collaboration with Khasia from the Dona border area of Kanaighat. Subsequently, the district police handed over Akbar to the PBI at around 8 pm.
