Women’s leader Sarkar Farhana Akhter Sumi and Ketkibari UP President Zahurul Haque Dipu said trains stopped on the railway during the Pakistan-India war. In view of our long-standing demand, the train is running again. We are forever grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Minister of Railways Nurul Islam Sujan.

According to railway sources, even after the partition of Pak-India on August 15, 1947, rail traffic continued to circulate on this route. At that time, passenger and freight trains used to run on this route in different parts of the two countries. After the war between Pakistan and India in 1965, rail service between the two countries was stopped. The governments of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi took the initiative to reopen the abandoned railway. The current government has undertaken a project at a cost of Tk 80.17 crore to start up the railway. The project includes the construction of a 6,724 km wide-gauge railway from the Chilahati train station to the border and the construction of a 2.38 km circular loop and other infrastructure. The job has already been completed. The Minister of Railways, Md Nurul Islam Sujan, inaugurated the project at the Chilahati train station facilities on September 21 last year.
