The Police Investigations Office (PBI) came to investigate after the police failed to advance after the murder. A year later they demanded the revelation of the murder mystery.
PBI officials say Umme Salma, 30, killed her husband Rafiqul Islam, 45, for obstructing a ‘foreigner’. Shakibul Islam was his collaborator. And the murder said. A man named Emran, who was hired.
On December 3 last year, the police recovered Rafiqul’s body from a pumpkin patch near the railway bridge on the Sitakunda-Hathazari highway in Bhatiari of Sitakunda upazila.
Rafiqul’s wife, Salma, filed a lawsuit against the unidentified defendant at the Sitakunda Police Station. After eight months of investigation, the Sitakunda police found nothing and went to the police headquarters to hand over the case. PBI came to investigate about it.
Salma was arrested on Sunday in the area of the Anand Nagar police station in Bogra on the basis of information obtained from the investigation, said PBI, Chittagong district, SI Kamal Abbas.
He told bdnews24.com that on October 24 and 26, Shakib and Emran were arrested and the knife used in the murder was recovered.
In their statement to the court, Shakib and Emran gave details of the murder, which raised the question of Salma’s involvement, the investigating officer said.
He said: “Salma had an affair with Shakib. When Rafiqul Islam found out about the matter, he beat his wife and a marital dispute broke out between them.
“So Shakib and Salma planned to kill Rafiqul. So they signed a deal with Emran with 30,000 rupees.”
Rafiqul Islam’s body was in that area.
Investigative officer Kamal said that Rafiqul was called by phone to the railway bridge on the Sitakunda-Hathazari highway on the day of the murder as planned. Salma herself was there, but in secret.
“According to the plan, they massacred Rafiqul, killed him, buried his body in a nearby pumpkin patch and fled.”
SI Kamal said: “Shakib and Emran said that Salma had assured them that nothing would happen to them in this case. Because he himself will be the plaintiff. “
After taking Salma’s body to her father-in-law’s house in Natore, she moved to her father’s house in Bogra, from where she has not returned to Chittagong.
“The police asked him to come to the case at different times, but he did not help them,” said Kamal, a PBI official.
Meanwhile, Salma was arrested at her father’s home in Bogra on Sunday and taken to Chittagong and sent to jail through court.
He will be placed in pre-trial detention for seven days for questioning on Tuesday, SI Kamal said.
