As the wife was in exile, the brother-in-law developed an illicit relationship with the sister-in-law. At one stage, he also began an illicit relationship with the daughter of the wife’s older sister. Knowing the matter, Suhag killed Shalika at one stage of the fight.

Suhag did not stop killing. He also tried to cover up the matter by calling it suicide.

On Wednesday night (December 23), father-in-law Abdul Chhatir filed a lawsuit against Suhag. After the case, the police raided and arrested Suhag.

On Thursday night (December 24), Suhag made a confessional statement in the court of Habiganj’s highest magistrate of the judiciary, Sultan Uddin Pradhan.

He is the son of Sabuj Miah from Yasher Abda village in Habiganj town.

According to the police, Suhag told the court that he married Sitara, daughter of Abdul Chhatir from Shekhergaon village in Chunarughat upazila, 10 years ago. After the marriage, Suhag lived in his father-in-law’s house. They have a child in their married life.

A year ago, his wife Sitara went to Saudi Arabia to earn a living. At the time, Shalika Junera Khatun was taking care of Suhag’s baby. At one point, Suhag fell in love with his sister-in-law.

Meanwhile, the older sister of Suhag’s wife lives in the nearby village of Jikura. Her teenage daughter went to her grandmother’s house every day to sleep with her sick grandmother. Suhag also took this opportunity to have an illicit relationship with him.

When the young men understood the matter, they began to argue with Suhag. On Tuesday night (December 22), Suhag wrapped a scarf around Junera’s neck and killed her after threatening to expose everything. He later called it a suicide and quickly tried to bury the body.

But when people from the father-in-law’s house learned of the incident and reported it to the Chunarughat police station, the police recovered the body.

The police officer in charge of Chunarughat (OC-Investigation) Champak Dham said that Suhag was sent to jail after pleading guilty in court. Junera’s body was also released to her family after an autopsy.
