The ICC released the new ODI classification after the Pakistan-Zimbabwe ODI series on Wednesday. Shakib is at the top with 363 qualifying points.
Shakib was banned for a year on October 27 last year for failing to inform concerned authorities despite receiving a proposal from a player. According to the classification rules, if a cricketer is banned for a year or more, he is excluded from the classification. So Shakib’s name was removed from the ranking in all three editions.
Mohammad Nabi topped Shakib’s place in ODIs. Now the Afghan off-roader has been reduced to two with Shakib in place again. He is far behind Shakib in rating points (301).
However, Afghanistan has played only three ODIs during Shakib’s ban period. That also in November of last year.
In the ODI hitters ranking, Shakib ranks 21st alongside Tamim Iqbal. Mushfiqur Rahim is now on top of Bangladesh from 16th place.
Shakib’s position in the bowler ranking is 26. Here, Mehedi Hasan Miraj (14th) is found mostly in Bangladesh. Mustafizur Rahman is also 19th.
After being released from the ban, Shakib will return to the rankings in these two editions in the next update of Tests and Q20s.
There are no changes to the best batting and bowling spots in this ranking update. In a significant change, Shahin Shah Afridi, who took five wickets in the first ODI against Zimbabwe, entered the top 20 for the first time in his career. The young left-arm pacemaker is now 16th in the bowler rankings, six steps ahead.
