The ministers said in their message of condolence that Colonel (retired) Shawkat Ali, a trusted partner of Bangabandhu, had played a leading role in the great liberation war of 1971. Among the 35 accused with Bangabandhu in the case of Agartala conspiracy, Colonel (retired) Shawkat Ali was the 26th defendant. Colonel (Retired) Shawkat Ali also made an effective contribution to strengthening parliamentary democracy in the country with his outstanding political wisdom and talents. Colonel (retired) Shawkat Ali breathed his last on Monday (November 16) morning at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital Dhaka (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Rajeun).
