The Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Tejgaon Division, Harun Aur Rashid, said the death of Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim was a clear murder. Up to 10 people have already been arrested for their direct involvement in the incident.
He said so at a press conference held in his office Tuesday afternoon. Haroon Aur Rashid said that after analyzing CCTV footage of the incident, eight to nine people were seen beating the police officer. Some hit themselves on the head, others on the chest. Anisul Karim was also seen tying his hands. They were all guys from the hospital ward, cleaners, there was no doctor here. So we thought it was a clear murder.
He said that a murder case had been brought up in the incident and that the 10 people present in the CCTV footage had been arrested. Each of them will be sent to court with a 10-day return request.
The people arrested are: Arif Mahmud Joy, Marketing Manager of Mind Aid Hospital, Coordinator Redwan Sabbir, Chef Masud, Child Ward Jobayer Hossain, Tanif Mollah, Sajeeb Chowdhury, Asim Chandra Pal, Liton Ahmed, Saiful Islam Palash and the pharmacist Tanv.
ASP Anisul was working in Barisal. But his relatives took him to the National Institute of Mental Health in Shyamoli, noting that he had been silent for several days. But the police are trying to find out what happened so he could be taken to Mind Aid Hospital in Adabar in a few hours. We are collecting information on those who participated in your transfer to the hospital. If someone is involved in the government hospital, action will be taken against him, said Harun Aur Rashid.
He added that even though they were offered mental health treatment at Mind Aid Hospital, they were unable to show any valid documents from the health department. They do not have the approval of the Department of Narcotics Control. The hospital functioned without doctors. None of the members of the hospital’s board of directors is a doctor.
