A sedition case has been brought against three people, including newspaper editors Naya Diganta and Jaiya Din, for publishing and spreading obscene articles about the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the War of Liberation. The case was brought before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court Ziaur Rahman on Thursday by Aminul Islam Bulbul, chairman of the central committee of Muktijuddha Mancha.
Following the plaintiff’s statement, the court ordered the Police Investigation Office (PBI) to investigate the allegations and submit a report on September 20. The defendants in the case are Alamgir Mohiuddin, editor of the Naya Diganta newspaper, Kazi Rukun Uddin Ahmed, editor of Jaiya Din, and Morshed Hasan Khan, a dismissed professor in the marketing department of Dhaka University.
According to the complaint, one of the defendants in the case, Dhaka University professor (dismissed) Morshed Hasan Khan, wrote an article on May 30, 2016 under the headline ‘Smritimoy Zia’ in the daily Jaiya Din. Subsequently, on March 26, 2016, another article was published in the Naya Diganta newspaper under the headline ‘Jyotirmoy Zia’. In those two articles, he distorted information about the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and wrote false, fabricated and insulting statements, which were later verified by Kazi Rukun Uddin Ahmed. It is further alleged that, as a result of the publication and dissemination of such writings by the defendants, the plaintiff believes that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Liberation War are ugly, distort history and are part of a conspiracy against the country. And that is why he has presented a case on behalf of these three.
Meanwhile, the professor of the Marketing Department of Dhaka University, accused of distorting history and insulting Bangabandhu. Morshed Hasan Khan has been fired. He was released at a DU union meeting on Wednesday. A court was set up to examine the charges against him. He has been released on the recommendation of that court.
