Commander of the Liberation War Sector and former administrator of the Chandpur District Council, Lt. Colonel (retired) Abu Osman Chowdhury no longer exists. Abu Osman Chowdhury was born on January 1, 1937 in the Madanergaon village of Faridganj upazila of Chandpur. After earning a BA from Comilla Victoria College, he obtained a post in the Pakistan Army in 1956. In April 1986, he was promoted to Major. In 1970, Abu Osman married Nazia Khanam, the eldest daughter of Mansur Ahmed de Moulvipara in Comilla. Nasima Osman and Fawzia Osman are his two daughters.
On March 7, 1971, Abu Osman Chowdhury took command of the southwestern battlefield that stretched from Kushtia to the Barisal district, across the Padma-Meghna. Subsequently, on April 10, 1971, the Bangladeshi government appointed him Southwest Regional Commander. He was awarded the Medal of Independence for his heroic contribution to the War of Independence. After the country became independent, Abu Osman Chowdhury was promoted to lieutenant colonel, Bangabandhu appointed him Director of the Army Service Corps (ASC).
Following Bangabandhu’s assassination on November 7, 1975, during an army coup, a group of soldiers attacked the home of Abu Osman Chowdhury in Gulshan to kill him. Although he survived that day because he was not at home, his wife Nazia Khanam was killed. When the Awami League government came to power in 1996, Abu Osman Chowdhury was appointed president of the BJMC. Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him administrator of the Chandpur District Council. He was also vice president of the Central Committee of the Forum of Sector Commanders.
On August 30, Colonel (retired) Abu Osman Chowdhury was admitted to CMH due to physical illness. His crown was identified there, said Harun Habib, secretary general of the Sector Commanders Forum.
He said that Abu Osman Chowdhury had been suffering from various complications due to old age for a long time. His memory gradually disappeared. Although he had been ill for a long time, he used to attend Sector Commanders Forum meetings before the Coronation. Although at that moment it was difficult for him to speak.

The president asked for the forgiveness of the soul of the late Abu Osman Chowdhury and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved relatives.

The nation will always respectfully remember your contribution in the war of liberation. Sheikh Hasina prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased’s soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of his grieving family.
Abu Osman Chowdhury has expressed further grief over the death of the foreign minister.
