‘A crocodile in the water, a tiger on the shore’ – Span 36 of the Padma Bridge ‘Uno A’ sat in such danger. The span was installed on posts No. 1 and 2 of the bridge at the Mawa end of Lohajang in Munshiganj at 2.35pm on Saturday. It is visible at 5,600 meters from the bridge. The connection between the river and the land was established through the successful installation of the span.
Section 36 was installed 9 days after the installation of Section 38. Of the total 41 spans, only three remain to be installed.
The installation of section 36 was very complicated. At the end of Mawa, the first post of the bridge is on the ground and the second post is on the Padma River. Between the two poles, half is water and the other half is earth. In this situation it was not possible to anchor the floating crane between the two posts. Finally, a large area near post No. 1 was dredged and the earth was removed to accommodate the floating crane. To do this, it is a few days late to install the span.
Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge (Main Bridge) Dewan. Abdul Quader said that although the span was scheduled to be installed on November 18, it would take a few more days to prepare for excavation and other technical matters in the area of the two piers. At 9:20 am yesterday, the Tiai-e floating crane departed from the Kumarbhog construction yard with span 36 of 150 meters and arrived at the scheduled dock at 9:50 am Then, the crane takes a few more hours to complete the anchor and other technical work. Subsequently, the section can be mounted on the anti-seismic bearings of the two pillars.
