Dewan Abdul Quader, executive engineer and project manager (main bridge) of the bridge, told the media: “Even a few days ago, the water depth near Pillars 8 and 9 was more than 130 feet. But currently there is about two meters of water. If such a situation exists, it will not be possible to lay the span. To do this, excavation works are being carried out there. The decision will be made after removing the silt and increasing seaworthiness. However, a date has not yet been set for the installation of the section. He said a ‘Tian-e’ floating crane with a 3,600-ton capacity was parked at the Mawa Construction Yard. The 150-meter-long gray section is embedded in it. All preparations for departure are being made.

Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the construction of the main bridge and Sino Hydro Corporation, another company in the country, is working on managing the river.

The main shape of this multipurpose bridge, 6.15 km long, will be two storeys. The structure of the bridge is being built with concrete and steel.
