Jamaat leader Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, has been brought before a court in a money laundering case.
The case was scheduled to be heard in the court of Dhaka Special Judge Syeda Hossain Ara on Monday.
The court granted the statement of the defendants’ lawyers and set January 11 for the hearing.
Previously, Sayedee was brought before a temporary court at Alia Madrasa in Bakshibazar, Old Dhaka, in a prison van under strict security. The hearing started around 10 a.m.
6 defendants, including Sayedee in money laundering case. The other five defendants are Mohammad Lutful Haque, former director of the Islamic Foundation, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, former chairman of the Mosque Council for Community Advancement, Mia Mohammad Yunus, Bandhujan Parishad chief secretary, Tofazzal Hossain , former president of the Center for Islamic Social Welfare and Mohammad Ali, deputy director of the Islamic Foundation mosque council. Abdul Haq.
Among those charged, Sayedee is in jail. Abul Kalam Azad and Abdul Haq run away. The other three defendants are out on bail.
Sayedee was arrested on June 29, 2010 on charges of insulting religious sentiments. He was subsequently arrested on August 2, accused of crimes against humanity.
In this case, the Appeals Division sentenced Delwar Hossain Sayedee to death on February 17, 2016.
