Saudi prince approves of Khashoggi assassination

In 2016, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman authorized the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. In a report, the US intelligence agency has given such information. The report was released by the US Director of National Intelligence on Friday, a day after US President Joe Biden called King Salman of Saudi Arabia, alleging that Prince Salman was involved in the assassination.

According to the report, Prince Salman viewed Jamal Khashoggi as a threat to his empire. He even agreed to take the necessary drastic measures to silence Khashoggi, but the Saudi royal family or Prince Salman repeatedly denied all the accusations.

The report claims that seven members of the Rapid Intervention Force (RIF), which is dedicated to the safety of Yuvraj and is trusted, organized the killings with his permission. It also highlights Yuvraj’s influence over Saudi intelligence and security agencies since 2006.

According to a recent secret CNN document in Saudi Arabia, the assassins used two private jets to assassinate Khashoggi, who less than a year ago was taken over by the Saudi Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman. Yuvraj was also aware of the use of the two planes.

UN expert Agnes Calamard hopes that the release of the US intelligence report on Khashoggi’s assassination will play an important role in establishing justice. The special envoy for extrajudicial executions believes that through this report it will be possible to find out who is responsible for the murder of Khashogi in 2016. In October 2016, journalist Jamal Khashoggi was brutally murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. He was a fierce critic of Prince bin Salman.

Calamard spoke about the report’s release at a panel discussion organized by the Knight Institute of the First Amendment at Columbia University on Wednesday. “If we had more evidence, it would be impossible for the rest of the world to ignore the information that has been provided,” he said. In the interest of accountability and in the interest of American democracy, the DNI report should be published.

Previously, a Calamard investigation report in June 2019 said that there was sufficient credible evidence of Yuvraj’s involvement in Khashoggi’s murder. This needs more research.

On October 2, 2016, Jamal Khashoggi visited the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Istanbul. He disappeared the same day. The Saudi government claimed for 17 days that it had no information on his whereabouts. Saudi Arabia has admitted that Khashoggi was assassinated inside the Saudi embassy on October 19 of the same year under international pressure. Eleven Saudi officials have been arrested in connection with the killings. Police believe Khashoggi was strangled to death and his body burned to pieces.
