Amnesty International has harshly criticized the Saudi authorities for the inhumane treatment of Hamas leaders detained in Saudi prisons.
The human rights group said in a statement Monday that Hamas’s special envoy to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Khedari, and his son Hani had been detained in Saudi Arabia in 2019 and were being held in Saudi jails. News Prestiv.
“Parents and children lead inhumane lives there and their human rights are being violated in prisons,” the statement said.
Khedari is said to have been detained without charge and kept in a condom cell. He has been deprived of all rights and has not been allowed to hire a lawyer.
The Saudi government has detained many more Palestinians, including Khadari, since February 2019. Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, has repeatedly called for the release of its leaders, but Riyadh has refused to respond.
Recently, Ismail Haniya, the head of the Hamas politburo and former prime minister-elect, sent a personal message to Saudi King Salman urging Riyadh to release all detained Palestinians, including Hamas representatives.
