Saudi Arabia will be friends with Israel only if one condition is met

Saudi Arabia has publicly hinted at friendly relations with Israel. This was stated by Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the foreign minister of the influential Middle Eastern country. But for this, Israel has to fulfill only one condition.

Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud said that Riyadh will fully support the normalization process of relations with Tel Aviv only if the only preconditions of his country are met. If a dignified state is established for the Palestinians by signing a permanent and comprehensive peace agreement, the Riyadh government will give its full support to the establishment of relations with Israel.

He made the remarks in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the G20 Virtual Conference on Saturday.

In the past two months, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan have signed agreements to normalize relations with Israel. Furthermore, other Arab states are expected to follow suit. Riyadh has previously supported the deal. Saudi Arabia has also established airspace for Israeli flights with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Although these Arab countries have normalized relations with Israel, the Palestinians have strongly condemned and criticized them.

In the same interview, Farhan al-Saud expressed his hope that normal relations with the government of newly elected US President Joe Biden would continue.

He said the policies of the new Biden-led administration would help maintain regional stability. Any conversation with them in Saudi Arabia would be helpful. Riad is confident in this regard.

Reuters reports that Riyadh is trying to strengthen ties with a new US president who promised to reconsider relations with Saudi Arabia during the election campaign.

By the way, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has a personal relationship with outgoing US President Donald Trump and his Jewish son-in-law Jared Kushner. Trump-Kushner’s efforts to establish relations with Israel have resulted in a number of countries in Saudi Arabia’s sphere of influence in the Middle East. Trump also said that Saudi Arabia would recognize Israel. President Donald Trump also confirmed Yuvraj’s protection from accountability for Khashoggi’s assassination.
