The police arrested BNP leader and former UP member Rihan Uddin Raihan, 52, and his brother Biram Uddin in connection with the murder of Salman Shah in the Joynagar village of Habiganj Sadar Upazila. The Habiganj Sadar Model Police arrested them in Joynagar on Sunday afternoon. Rihan Uddin Raihan is the president of BNP in Lokra Union District 3 in Habiganj Sadar Upazila and son of the late Taj Tajid Ali.
According to the police and local sources, Salman Shah used to have a duck farm in the Joynagar village of Habiganj Sadar upazila. On October 21, Salman Shah pulled a duck from his farm on the bank of the Ratna River and was stopped by his opponent. His boat was also seized. At 6:30 pm that day, the defendant struck Salman Shah in the middle of the bill and seriously injured him. He was rushed to Habiganj Adhunik Zila Sadar Hospital in critical condition and the doctor on duty pronounced him dead.
Salman Shah’s uncle, Iskander Bhandari, brought a murder case in the court of Habiganj’s superior judicial magistrate, Touhidul Islam. In this case, the brother of BNP leader Rihan Uddin Raihan, Biram Uddin, is the defendant in the case and Rihan is also a gang defendant and the police arrested him.
The plaintiff in the case, Iskander Bhandari, said that Rihan Uddin Raihan was pressuring them and threatening to compromise and withdraw the case. He expressed satisfaction at the arrest of the accused.
The Habiganj Sadar OC Masuk Ali model police station confirmed Asmidar’s arrest and said that it was being investigated whether Rihan Uddin Raihan was involved in the incident.
