Regent Hospital President Shahed Karim has been sentenced to life in prison by a court in a case brought under the Gun Control Act. He was also sentenced to seven years in prison for shooting. The two orders will go into effect together.
“Shahed’s incarceration will serve as a message for decent criminals in our society,” the court ruled.
Judge KM Imrul Kayesh of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court of Judges delivered the verdict around 2pm on Monday.
Tapas Kumar Pal, the prosecutor in the case, confirmed the information to NTV Online.
Earlier in the day, Shahed was brought to court from jail.
Witnesses said that while being brought to court from jail, Saheed was seen handcuffed and wearing a helmet on his head.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Additional Prosecutor (PP) Tapash Kumar Pal confirmed the matter to NTV Online on Sunday, saying that Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh had set September 20 as date for verdict.
PP added, “11 of the 14 witnesses have testified against Saheed in this case. Witnesses have spoken out against Shahid. In this case, Shahed has been shown to be guilty. We have asked the court to give Saheed the maximum sentence of life in prison.
On July 15, the RAB arrested Shahed from the Komarpur border area in Debhata upazila of Satkhira. Then, on July 19, police from the Detective Division (DB) carried out a night operation with Shahed. During the operation a personal car, an illegal weapon and 15 bottles of liquor were recovered. The police brought a case against Saheed under the Gun Act and the Special Powers Act at the Uttara West Police Station. After the case, Shahed was brought before the Main Metropolitan Magistrates Court of Dhaka and referred for various terms. He is currently in jail. Furthermore, two cases were brought against him at Debhata Police Station for illegal possession of weapons in Satkhira.
Charges were brought against Saheed in the case on August 28. Then the Metropolitan Sessions Judge came to court to hear the case documents. The RAB had filed two indictments against Saheed on September 9 in that case.
In addition to the allegations against Saheed-owned Regent Hospital, the institution has produced false reports of some 4,500 corona tests. A computer operator sat down and did 4,500 reports. Positive-negative fictitious reports. There have also been separate cases in these cases. In addition, there are cases of fraud and embezzlement against Saheed.
