The High Court has ordered the Cabinet Secretary to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman murals (sculptures / portraits) constructed and under construction throughout the country. A court composed of Judge FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Judge Shahed Nuruddin approved the order during a writ of writ.

The court appreciated the initiative taken by the Liberation War Ministry to place a Bangabandhu mural in front of each Muktijoddha Complex and in each district and headquarters of upazila.

The High Court issued the order following a court petition filed by Supreme Court attorney Bashir Ahmed. A report on the progress of the order was presented to the Superior Court yesterday. Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmoud Bashar appeared for the state.

The state presented progress in implementing the court’s instructions. It is said that the Ministry of Liberation War has already installed the Muktijoddha Complex in 360 upazilas and 63 districts and placed a mural of the Father of the Nation in front of the complex. Also, some are under construction. He asked interested DCs and SPs to take action within 24 hours to ensure their maintenance and safety. After the hearing, the Superior Court issued the order.

Meanwhile, another High Court bench has set Tuesday to hear another injunction request seeking instructions to ensure the safety of all sculptures, including Bangabandhu. Supreme Court attorney Uttam Lahiri filed the petition last Sunday.
