Bangladeshi teenager Sadat Rahman won the International Children’s Peace Prize for his contribution to stopping cyberbullying or bullying online. He won the prestigious award in recognition of his efforts to create an anti-cyberbullying app and raise awareness about online bullying.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai cites 18-year-old Sadat as an inspiration to all.

In a virtual speech about the Bangladeshi teenager, Malala said she was calling on young people around the world to stop cyberbullying and help their peers in their communities who experience emotional violence. Sadat is a true changer.

In recognition of their work on children’s rights, the Netherlands-based KidsRights Foundation announces the International Children’s Peace Prize each year. Previously, many people, like the Swedish teenager Greta Thanberg, received this award.

The name of the app created by Sadat Rahman is known to be ‘Cyber Teens’. Through this, a group of volunteers can be accused of online harassment by keeping their identity secret. These volunteers then go to the police or social workers if necessary. This app also teaches teens about online safety.

Sadat was deeply moved by the news of the death of a 15-year-old girl who was the victim of cyberbullying. He came up with the idea of creating a ‘Cyber Teens’ app for the purpose of preventing such incidents from happening again. More than 1,600 teenagers in Sadat’s own Narail district are currently using the app.

More than 300 victims have been treated since the app was launched, and at least eight perpetrators have been arrested in connection with the allegations.

Sadat Hossain received one lakh of euros (about one crore of rupees in Bangladeshi currency) as a cash prize for the International Peace Prize for Children. The money will be spent on spreading the anti-cyberbullying app in Bangladesh, the teenager said.

Accepting the award, Sadat said that the fight against cyberbullying is a kind of war. And I am a soldier in this war. If everyone supports this, together we will win this war against cyberbullying.
