Sadat Rahman, a teenager from Bangladesh, received the International Peace Prize for Children. Sadat, a 16-year-old boy from Narail, won the award for his work protecting children from cyberbullying and cybercrime. The news was reported by the British media BBC and the Reuters news agency.
Sadat Rahman was awarded at a ceremony in the Netherlands on Friday. Malala Yousafzai, winner of the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize, joined the ceremony online and presented the award to Sadat.
Sadat Rahman has created a mobile app where teens can report bullying online. Sadat’s app has started to gain popularity. Meanwhile, only 1,600 people in Narail are using the app. Sadat took this elegant initiative to make an application after learning of the suicide of a 15-year-old schoolgirl who was the victim of neglect.
The other two finalists with Sadat were Ivanna Orteza Ceret from Mexico and Siena Castellon from Ireland. One of the award sponsors, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, announced the names of the three contestants on October 29.
Kids Rights was launched in 2005 at a Nobel Peace Prize winners conference in Rome for young people ages 12 to 18.
