A Russian media editor set himself on fire in front of a regional office of the Russian Interior Ministry. The incident took place on Friday in the town of Nizhny Novgorod.

It is known that the name of the publisher who was sacrificed is Irina Slavina. She was the editor-in-chief of a news-based website called Koza Press.

Previously, Irina wrote in a Facebook post last Thursday: “I urge you to blame the Russian Federation for my death.”

Slavina said last Thursday that police searched his home for documents related to a pro-democracy group called Open Russia. Some computers and documents were later seized and taken away. She posted it after a police search at her home.

Russian authorities have confirmed that his body was found with severe burns

In a video posted on Friday, Irina Slavina set herself on fire while standing on a bench on Gorky Street in Novgorod. There is a regional office of the Russian Interior Ministry on that road. The footage shows a man running to help put out the fire. However, he repeatedly pushed her away. She was seen trying to put out the fire using her coat before falling to the ground.

Russia’s Investigative Committee says journalist Irina Slavina has a husband and a daughter. However, they said there was no connection between the suicide and the raid on the journalist’s apartment.
