Russia’s four-year ban on all international doping events has been reduced by two years. However, the world’s largest country will not participate in next year’s Tokyo Olympics, 2022 Paralympic Games and 2022 Qatar Soccer World Cup.
Previously, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned Russia for four years in December last year. Later, Russia appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) of the Supreme Court of Sports against the ban. And on Thursday, CAS announced a two-year reduction. It will end on December 16, 2022. However, Russia will not be able to host any international events during this time.
In a statement, the CAS said that the drug planned by Russia was “legitimate” to reduce its sanctions. The ban will remain in effect until December 16, 2022.
Despite the ban, Russia is not banned from playing in next year’s European Football Championship (Euro) because of Corona. This is because UEFA, the governing body of European football, is not seen as a “big event organizer” for violating drug rules.
Earlier, before the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, evidence of doping of Russian athletes was found in a Moscow laboratory. They were then disqualified from track and field. Wada has found evidence that the laboratory data matches false data against Moscow. Evidence of deleting data from athletes who tested positive for drugs against Russian officials.
However, athletes who are not involved in the drug scandal will be allowed to participate in the Olympics with a neutral flag if they can demonstrate their non-participation. Sixteen Russian athletes participated in the 2016 Winter Olympics in Pyongyang, South Korea, with neutral flags.
Two years ago, 16 Russian athletes competed in the Winter Olympics under the neutral flag. Russia will not be able to participate in athletics as a country, a ban that has been in place since 2015.
And in January last year, Wada accused Russia’s anti-doping agency (RUSADA) of leaking information about players in a laboratory. Where RUSADO or Rushada were previously banned for three years for helping state sponsored athletes get free high. The athletes were asked to provide all the information to Wader on the condition that his ban be lifted in 2016.
