Prisoner Farhad Hossain Rubel jumped from the fourth floor of a building to escape from Chittagong Central Jail. Earlier, he left the five-story room of the building and climbed the stairs to the fourth floor. Prison officials confirmed the matter by analyzing images from multiple closed-circuit television cameras.
On Monday night (March 8), the head of the investigation and DIG (Prison) committee of the Khulna Division, Chagir Mia, briefed the media on the matter.
He said CCTV cameras in the jail cell showed Farhad Hossain Rubel waking up before 5 a.m. and washing his face. After that, it was not seen on that CC camera. Later, another CCTV recording showed Rubel leaving the ground floor of the Karnafuli building. Another CCTV camera video showed Rubel jumping off the boundary wall of a four-story building under construction next to the prison gallows at 5:15 p.m.
Chagir Mia said that Rubel jumped off the ceiling and escaped to the top of the wall. Initially, his escape was clear to us. However, it is investigated if someone has helped him in this work.
Meanwhile, a committee formed to investigate Rubel’s disappearance conducted a one-day jail search by calling firefighters on Monday.
A man was stabbed to death in the area of the Sadarghat Police Station in Chittagong on February 8. Rubel was arrested in the case and sent to jail on February 8. He is the son of Shukkur Ali Bhandari from Mirerkandi village in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi. Inmate Rubel was not found in jail last Saturday. He had previously tried to flee, sources said. Rubel lived in the Punishment Pavilion on the fifth floor of the Karnafuli Pavilion.

He was supposed to be injured from jumping from such a height. For this reason, it is speculated that Rubel could be in treatment in a hospital.
The Chittagong DIG Prison Division office is not far from where Rubel jumped and fled. There is a regular guard in that office. The leap of the ruble was not caught by his eyes. Also, there is a tall tower around the prison, where the prison guards stand and look around. The ruble jump problem has also gone unnoticed. In this situation, new questions have arisen about prison security.
The police presented a general newspaper at the Kotwali police station on Saturday morning, the day the detainee disappeared. The same incident was processed at night. In the case of the missing prisoner, the prison authorities issued a separate warrant to the Chittagong Central Jail. Rafiqul Islam and Abu Sadat from the attached district have withdrawn. In addition, two prison guards were fired and departmental action was taken against one of them. A three-member committee was formed to investigate the incident. The Deputy Inspector General of Prisons of Khulna Division is the head of this committee. Shagir Mia. He is accompanied by the superintendent of the Brahmanbaria District Jail, Iqbal Hossain, and the Bandarban District Jail, Forkan Wahid. The committee called the fire service yesterday and conducted a one-day search.
Kafil Uddin, head of control of the Agrabad fire service bureau, said last night that the search took place from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. The entire prison was searched, but Rubel was not found.
