Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh has provided shelter for more than 1.1 million forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens. More than three years have passed, but Myanmar has not recovered a single Rohingya. This problem is the creation of Myanmar and it is up to Myanmar to solve it. This was stated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her virtual speech at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Saturday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “We are going through an unimaginable bad time in human history due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. For the first time in the history of the United Nations, the General Assembly is held digitally in the absence of the Heads of State and Government of the member countries at their headquarters in New York.
“This UN chamber is very emotional for me. Standing in this room in 1974, my father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his first speech in his native Bengali language as the head of government of a newly independent country. I have also appeared in this room 16 times before and have asked for world peace and friendship. This is my 16th speech at the UN General Assembly as head of government, ”said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sheikh Hasina said: “Just as World War II created an opportunity to emphasize the united efforts of all the countries of the world through the creation of the United Nations, this epidemic has highlighted the need for us to unite and provide a proper leadership. “
Remembering the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said: ‘I remember with deep respect the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation, the greatest Bengali Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of all time. He has taught the Bengali nation to stand tall on the face of the earth by ending exploitation, deprivation and oppression. Following the path shown by him, we have been able to lead Bangladesh to a decent seat today. Standing on this great council, he said: ‘The great ideals spoken of in the UN Charter are the ideals of our people and they have made the ultimate sacrifice for this ideal. The Bengali nation is dedicated to building a world order that reflects the aspirations for peace and justice of all people.
“This year is very significant for the Bengali nation. This year we celebrate the centenary of the birth of the father of our nation. Bangabandhu’s life, struggle, self-sacrifice and success give us courage to face the challenges of Kovid-19, as well as overcome the crisis and inspire hope for a new day. On the centenary of the birth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, I pay my respects on behalf of all underprivileged and development-loving countries and people, ”said the Prime Minister.

As a result, the health system and economic activities have been seriously disrupted. In Bangladesh, it was possible to achieve a GDP growth rate of 7.2 percent in fiscal year 2018-19. But Kovid-19 has hampered our progress.
“But in Bangladesh, we started from the beginning with the same importance in both life and livelihood. We have provided various incentives for the country’s trade and production so that they do not face massive losses. We have greatly expanded the scope of social security programs, ”he said.
The Prime Minister said: “We allocate around 39 billion rupees every year for the freedom fighters of the country. In addition, we have introduced various programs and subsidies for the elderly, widows and abandoned women, disability subsidies and other backward classes of society through which around 9.1 million families benefit.
He added: “We have immediately provided food and other assistance to people who have lost their jobs due to the spread of Kovid-19.” It has benefited more than 10 million families. We have provided scholarships to 4 million students. We have provided cash assistance to 5 million people, including farmers, day laborers, and day laborers who were affected during the Crown period. In order to ensure medical care for ordinary people, 30 kinds of medicines are provided free of charge from some 16,000 community clinics and union health centers at the village level.

He said: “We have identified 21 incentive packages to identify immediate problems in the financial sector. Incentives include export-oriented industries, worker protection, provision of working capital to small and medium-sized enterprises, credit for export growth, assistance to agriculture and farmers, provision of loans for job creation, interest exemption for affected companies, refinancing plans and introduction of insurance for health workers. So far, we have announced a total of 13.25 billion incentive packages, representing 4.3 percent of our total GDP.
He added: “We have given the utmost importance to food production during the Corona period. At the same time, all kinds of measures have been taken to ensure nutrition. We have taken special measures to keep the country’s industrial factories operational and to properly market agricultural and industrial products. As a result, the health and economy of Bangladesh remain relatively good.
“Despite the stagnation of world production due to Kovid-19, we have achieved a GDP growth of 5.24%. We are hopeful that the GDP growth rate will reach 6 percent in the next financial year.” He said.
Regarding the coronavirus vaccine, he said: “The world is expected to receive the vaccine for Covid-19 soon. This vaccine should be considered as a global resource. All countries should ensure that they receive this vaccine on time and at the same time. Given the technical knowledge and intellectual property, Bangladesh has the potential to produce this vaccine in large quantities.
He said: “Our initiatives to eradicate the epidemic and our efforts to achieve Agenda-2030 must go hand in hand.” The submission of the Second National Voluntary Review Report of Bangladesh shows that we are well on our way towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “We are working to make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021, achieve the SDGs by 2030, a developed country by 2041 and a thriving delta by 2100.”
On climate change, Sheikh Hasina said: “Existing problems of countries at risk of climate change are constantly emerging. Even in this crisis, we have to deal with the adverse effects of floods and cyclones. As Chairman of the Group of Finance Ministers CVF I V-20, Bangladesh will lead the formulation of a sustainable plan to address climate change, and Bangladesh will always strive to ensure constructive and effective outcomes at the Conference of the Parties (COP).
“Iberraham has played an effective role in ensuring gender equality,” he said. As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of this Declaration, we need determination and mutual cooperation to implement the important issues mentioned in the Declaration.
“In Bangladesh, we have reduced gender inequality as a whole by 72.6 percent. The contribution of women is essential for our national development. Bangladeshi women are working from the front in all activities, including the epidemic, ”said Sheikh Hasina.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “Friendship with everyone is not enmity with anyone” is the motto of our foreign policy. Inspired by this mantra, Bangladesh has regularly contributed to maintaining peace and security and building a culture of peace. Problems such as intolerance, hatred, animosity and extremist nationalism are on the rise during the epidemic. We can address these problems by establishing a culture of peace.
“Bangladesh’s position in dispatching peacekeepers is now at the top. Our peacekeepers are risking their lives to establish and maintain peace in conflict-prone countries. Ensuring their safety and protection is one of the responsibilities of the international community, ”he said.
“This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda,” she said. As one of the proponents of this agenda, we emphasize the role of women in peace and security. Bangladesh has already formulated a national action plan in this regard. From a peace point of view, we have adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism and violent extremism. In addition to national initiatives, international cooperation is essential to address the risks posed by the epidemic. Our support for the global aspiration to build a world free of nuclear weapons is unwavering. With this in mind, we strongly support the work of developing countries in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said: “In our fight for freedom, the Bengali nation has been the victim of unspeakable misery, crimes against humanity and heinous crimes such as genocide. Since that difficult experience, we have been supporting the just demands of the oppressed Palestinian people. “
He said: “The existing global challenges due to the Kovid-19 epidemic have become more apparent. This epidemic has forced us to realize that there is no alternative to multilateralism to overcome this crisis. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, we have deep faith in the multilateralism enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. We are determined to defend the ideals of multilateralism in the face of many adversities at the national level.

A golden Bangladesh free from poverty and exploitation will be based on democratic values, where the human rights of all will be guaranteed.
