Robi’s CEO and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, who ranks second in terms of subscriber numbers, says the top company is manipulating the market by capitalizing on the crisis created by Covid-19.
At an online press conference on Monday, Mahtab Uddin made the allegation, giving details of the steps Robi is taking in the current crisis.
Grameenphone, the country’s largest operator, announced at a press conference on Friday that it would offer 100 million minutes of free talk time to subscribers of Rs 1 million who were unable to reload in April or had no balance.
The operator also announced several initiatives in the fight against Kovid-19, including the provision of 30 GB of data per month for the next 6 months for 25,000 coronavirus doctors certified by the Department of Health.
Mahtab was “surprised” that the regulator has offered 30 GB of data for just Rs 1 for “potential clients”, such as coronavirus treatment professionals.
He complained: “Market leader Kovid-19 is taking advantage of the market. The offer made by the market leader is a perfect example of a price war. ”
“If the regulatory body (BTRC) does not take steps to keep the market leader running smoothly, they will take advantage of the Covid-19 crisis to further their business goals,” said Mahtab.
“If regulators and the government do not think an operator is sufficient in the country’s interest, then they must take action now. Because if the market leader does not follow the SMP rules, we will not be able to sustain the business.”
Covid-19: Grameenphone is giving 100 million minutes of free talk time
Robi drew attention to the allegations made by Grameenphone’s Head of External Communications. Hasan told bdnews24.com in an email: “There is a great need to support people in this terrible crisis and everyone must be held accountable for it.” It is regrettable that such comments have been made. But we applaud that many have been inspired and keep going. ”
Regarding the allegations, BTRC President Zahurul Haque told bdnews24.com: “Everything is being done according to the law. If someone complains, it will be seen on the basis of whether the law has been violated or not. , action will be taken accordingly. “
To keep pace with the leading company’s offering, various offerings are also being offered to Robi’s customers, said Mahtab Uddin Ahmed.
“In addition, a comprehensive plan has been adopted to provide food, financial assistance and health insurance to Robi’s sales and service personnel.”
Mahtab, who expressed his firm commitment to supporting society in facing the current coronavirus crisis, said: “In this context, Robi’s clear position is that there is no opportunity to combine market-oriented measures with business-related measures.
“While two problems are important in treating the coronavirus, the company is reluctant to consider them as one of the two problems.” The business decision issue is related to the steps related to the market. But sustainable measures are only directed at society. “
Mahtab said that now that daily earnings have been reduced by Tk 4 crore, Robi has reduced the price of data in certain packages by 60 percent, and in the case of voice, it has decreased as much as possible . Robi currently offers the “best offer price” on the market in terms of cost and price to survive the competition.
Mahtab said Robi’s spending on the Macabilla Coronavirus has already exceeded Tk 160 million rupees (Tk 90 million rupees on CSR and sustainable measures and the rest Tk 70 million on marketing related measures) by combining market measures and sustainable.
At the press conference, Mahtab highlighted Robi’s CSR and sustainable initiatives.
He said the food would be distributed to 10,000 families in remote areas of the country in collaboration with the Army Welfare Organization. Robi will install disinfection booths in public places in Dhaka and Chittagong.
He also highlighted the importance of the direct line 333 of the government established and led by Robi in the Covid-19 crisis. He also discussed in detail the contribution of the Robi-Ten Minute School in the current crisis.
Robi’s Corporate and Regulatory Director Shahed Alam and members of the company’s board of directors were present at the time.
