A robbery took place at the Uthli Bazar branch of Sonali Bank in Jivannagar upazila de Chuadanga on Sunday (November 15) at 1:15 pm. At that time, the robbers took the bank hostage at gunpoint and looted Tk 9 lakh in cash.
Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, manager of the branch, said that three people entered the bank on a motorcycle wearing helmets around 1:15 pm. Then they raised their guns and closed the bank door. They took everyone’s mobile phones from the bank and took everyone hostage in a room. Later, they looted Tk 9 lakh from the bank counter. At that moment, when a customer who came to collect started screaming, people in the market were chasing him. But they raised their pistols and threatened to shoot people. The robbers fled on motorcycles as people tried to throw bricks at them.
Witnesses said that one of the robbers was hit on the head when he began hitting bricks while fleeing on a motorcycle. At that moment, when a member of the bandit group was about to raise his pistol and shoot, we dispersed. They fled on motorcycles.
Upon receiving the news, the BGB and Jivannagar police from the Uthli Special Camp rushed to the scene and recovered the pistol clip left by the thieves.
